The Art of Giving Back: How Your Legacies Donations Support Cancer Patients

In 1994, a group of caring women created Legacies Upscale Resale to sell donated and consigned home furnishings, benefiting The Wellness Community (now known as Cancer Support Community). Initially located in a small shop off Hyde Park Square our shop quickly became known for its affordable, high-end merchandise.

Since then, we have donated over $5 million to Cancer Support Community (CSC). When you donate gently-used items to Legacies Upscale Resale (now in Hyde Park Plaza), 100% of our profits still go to CSC to help cancer patients and their families.

If your donated items are particularly unique and in good condition, they will go further toward helping neighbors in need than if you took them to thrift stores, because our shoppers pay top dollar for second-hand gems.

About Cancer Support Community

CSC of Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky offers over 150 programs each month in a comfortable, homelike environment at

1.    their Lynn Stern Center in Blue Ash,

2.    at St. Elizabeth’s Edgewood Care Center,

3.    alongside Mercy Healthcare in Eastgate and

4.    around the region at other off-site locations.

All programs, including professionally-led support groups, educational workshops and healthy lifestyle classes, are designed to complement conventional medical care and are available at no charge.

Legacies directly funds CSC’s mission to uplift and strengthen people impacted by cancer by

·      breaking down barriers to care.

What and how to donate to Legacies

Legacies accepts donations of

3. textiles (no drapes or bedding)
4. jewelry
5. art
6. rugs
7. boutique items such as

   2. scarves
   3. furs
   4. belts

We ask that items be in good condition, clean and free of damage.

We are a 501(c)3, so your generous donations are tax deductible. Donations of small non-furniture items can be dropped off anytime the store is open and do not require pre-approval, with the following exceptions:

• Photos of furniture donations must be emailed and pre-approved before we will offer complimentary pickup. Please email photos to [email protected].
• We do not accept mattresses, large appliances, gym equipment, entertainment centers or pianos.

Two other ways to help: consignment and volunteering

Consignment

If you feel the household goods you no longer need are of particular value, you can try sharing them with Legacies on consignment. We split the profits of consignment items 50/50 with consignors—so 50% of our profits go to CSC.

• Home goods are accepted by emailing pictures of your items to [email protected]. Approved items will be scheduled for a drop off on Wednesday or Fridays between 10 am-2 pm.
• Furniture consignment: Send pictures of your furniture to [email protected] or bring in pictures. Call before coming in to ensure a team member is available.
• Jewelry is consigned by appointment ONLY on Thursday and Friday. Jewelry can be dropped off Tuesday-Friday from 10:30 am-3:30 pm ONLY IF each item is in its own plastic bag, marked with your consignor number, and an intake and drop off acceptance form is completed when dropping off. • Boutique items include purses, wallets, scarves and belts. We accept appointments for high-end boutique items on Friday mornings.  To make an appointment email [email protected], or call 513-304-2430.
• Artwork is consigned by appointment ONLY on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 11:30 am to 3:00 pm. Email [email protected] with photos of artwork.

Volunteering

You can also help cancer patients by working as a volunteer at Legacies. Our volunteer sales assistants help shoppers find unique items for their homes and wardrobes.
